If you’ve never been divorced, you’ve likely never heard of “pulling and sharing.” It is a term that refers to keeping joint accounts even though you have initiated divorce proceedings. If you pull and share, support levels don’t have to be determined. You just keep using your same bank account and credit cards.

Obviously this has some downsides, but we decided to do it because it saved us the hassle of having to determine what temporary support numbers should be. I didn’t truly know what my costs would be, having just moved out of the house. And if we hadn’t been able to agree on support numbers, we would have had to petition the court to determine temporary support, a process that takes a good number of billable hours.

And pulling and sharing worked fine for a time.
