Hey, I send my doggie to the groomer for 2 hours, and I feel the same. LOL.

Sending positive vibes your way! Thank you for your brutal honesty in acknowledging a shitty part of a hard but necessary life phase…. Your kids will one day look back at your strength and love you have demonstrated when they are adults and realize “Wow our mom really showed us how to show up for our loved ones in life even when its not easy” 🙏🏽

Oh I understand the visceral gnawing of seeing your children go away somewhere. Is it the internal protective bond part of us that can't be untethered? And I feel this

in an intact relationship. 🤦‍♀️🫶 (but same as you, not when I leave)!

Love the idea of the tether! Yes! And even when we cut the ties when they leave us as adults, a psychic tether remains, always.

I get this. I often remind myself that it’s ok to have two feelings; to like the time to myself and to also miss my son.

I think the phase both/and applies so much to motherhood. Even when I wasn't divorced and I would go away, even just for the afternoon, I would feel such relief and then also the lack. I do think when we grown them in our bodies and then they are literally attached to us so many hours of so many days when they are infants, it does something to us.

And yet.

I enjoy my solo time now. My kids are a lot to handle on my own.

But when they go away with my ex- that phantom feeling, feeling like it’s wrong, even though I don’t want that version of my family anymore - it’s the grief of knowing my kids will have memories that lacks me. No mommy in the picture on vacation. That’ll always feel like loss.

Absolutely. It does always feel like loss.
